There is a reason why the motoring world, us included, love the Paris Motor Show. Of course we enjoy seeing the new production cars of offer but what we really love is being able to get those first ‘in the flesh’ sneak peeks of all the concept cars. There have been few others that have excited us as much as this one though!
They said it was going to happen but we never really believed them. Well VW have proved us wrong and unveiled the XL Sport at the Paris Motor Show and we think it is absolutely glorious. The best thing is that this won’t just be a looker, it is going to have to grunt to go with it too! Here is everything you need to know about this amazing car.
First thing’s first, it won’t be powered by a conventional car engine, this thing has a 200bhp V2 Ducatti Superleggera Motorcycle engine under the hood. That’s right, a motorcycle engine! This isn’t just any motorcycle engine though, it’s the world’s most powerful 2 cylinder engine and will rev all the way up to 11,000 rpm. We can’t wait to hear it, it should sound amazing and go like the clappers to boot. One the subject of speed, the XL Sport will be good for just under 170mph, which is a record from an engine with 200bhp and get to 60 in around five seconds, so it certainly is no slouch.
Our favourite thing though is the way it looks, it’s always nice going fast but you want to look good doing it and the XL will be turning heads where ever it goes. It might not be everyone’s cup of tea but there is no denying that it is striking, it looks like it belongs in a Tron remake! They are only making 250 of these, which we think is both a good and bad thing. It is a shame that something that is set to be such an engineering marvel won’t be available to more people but on the other hand if you saw these cruising the streets everywhere it might take some of the magic away from those Sci-Fi looks!
That’s it for now but make sure to keep your eyes peeled for more details of the Paris Motor Show! We will be keeping you updated all weekend!
