Not the best looking car on the market, for practicality and driveability, then the Skoda Yeti is an excellent choice. Like its namesake, its big and bulky, but there’s not much that’s fearsome about this vehicle.

It’s not the prettiest crossover SUV. What it does have going for it is the quality of its build, the roomy interior, and the excellent safety rating. For size to value ratio, you can’t do much better.

So many people have this vehicle as their first car, and it’s easy to fall in love with how good an all-round vehicle you’ll find. The most recent generations have focused on creating a range of engines that are efficient and economical. But the car is still fun to drive.

It’s not the biggest in the back, so better for new or young families. Add to that the excellent safety rating and a range of smart features as standard, and the Corsa is a great option for new drivers, or those who want an unfussy, fun drive.

The Volkswagen Golf hatchback has been the car of choice for those who want a bit more sport and performance from their vehicle almost since its exception. The most recent iteration is no different, with even then most basic model having a feel of performance that you don’t get in other hatchbacks.

Its looks have changed a lot since those early versions, so you’ll either love it, or you’ll be happy to settle in exchange for the performance it provides. If you want efficiency over power, then there’s a whole range of efficient options to choose from. It’s the family car for the driver who wants a bit of excitement in their drive.
