It's getting very exciting for us bikers with motorbike racing in overdrive, and the summer weather finally here.  Let's take a quick look at the recent Motogp round at Catalunya, and then how you can get the motorbike of your dreams with Credi

Luis Salom 1991 - 2016

So firstly, we had another reminder of how dangerous motorbike racing can be with the very unfortunate loss of Luis Salom. The very likable 24 year old Moto2 rider, who was seen to be a future star due to his impressive speed, suffered a fatal injury during free practice 2. The whole paddock was left shocked and as well as holding a minutes silence before racing many riders also dedicated their races to him. It was touching to see Marc Marques switching from his normal number 93 to 39 following the race in tribute to the now missing number in the paddock. Fortunately the sport is much safer in modern times so fatal instances are highly rare. Race Direction opted to change the track layout following the incident on two fast corners, in an attempt to slow down the bikes.

The MotoGP Race

Following an unfortunate mechanical DNF at Mugello where he showed race winning pace, Valentino Rossi has shown he is performing at his best at Catalunya. A less than impressive 5th position second row qualifying mean't the Italian superstar had it all to do from the go. But this did not seem to pose any issue for Rossi, even after a bad start which put him back to eighth, as he soon started battling his way through the pack up to first position. Not even Lorenzo could keep with Rossi's pace but Marquez was in no way ready to settle for a second place finish, keeping the Italian within reach until he made his attack. He was clearly riding on the absolute limit and suffering with tyre degradation, with two near falls but still managed to get close enough to contend. With 6 laps to go Marquez and Rossi switched positions multiple times, but Rossi was clearly the more comfortable and had an answer for every move by the Honda rider.

The results were Valentino Rossi in first position, with Marc Marquez in second, followed by Dani Pedrosa taking third.

Prior to the Rossi/Marquez battle Lorenzo suffered a DNF at the hands of Ianonne after an apparent lunge to try and take fourth position. Immediately following the incident Ianonne asked Lorenzo if he had a mechanical issue, and has since insisted he used the same breaking point. Race Direction has panalised Ianonne with a final place start at the next race. Obviously the footage showed a different story.
