Ever been stuck for an idea on what to do on a romantic day out? Wanted to surprise your special someone with a spontaneous spur of the moment escape? Or just looking for another excuse to spend time with your beau?

Valentine’s Day has us all thinking about ways to impress our significant others. So we’ve been thinking about romantic road trips. Not only are they a good way to see the sights. But they are also cheaper too – just the cost of a tank of petrol!

Here’s our pick for the most romantic UK road trips - although you might need to delay your trip until after Valentine’s Day due to the current UK lockdown.

London to Brighton

If you or your loved one are fans of vintage music and clothing, then a trip from London to Brighton is an absolute must. Not only will you get to see some of the splendour of the Sussex countryside, but you’ll also end up cruising along Brighton’s beautiful beach. Stay over for the night and take a trip to the vintage clothes stores. There’s also a lot of live music and events. You might even find a drag night or two taking place!

Lands’ End to John O’Groats

Now we’re not saying you have to do the entire length of the country. That could push any relationship to the very brink.  But wherever you are in the country, driving north or south can make for a fantastically scenic drive. And once you reach the end of your trip, you’ll be facing one of the most spectacular views in the country. Either the seemingly endless view of the Atlantic Ocean drifting off ahead of you, or the freezing waters of the North Sea.

Plus, the length of the journey gives you plenty of options of places to stop over on your trip.

Snake Pass

One of the most beautiful parts of the UK is the Peak District. So what better way to explore its beauty with your special someone by taking a trip on the Snake Pass, the A57 that takes you to all the most scenic points. The view is breathtaking and will give you a renewed love for the beauty of the British countryside. It’s also fun to drive, giving you and your loved one a thrill as you tackle the curves and bends.

The Atlantic Highway

A cruise along the coast at sunset is one of the most romantic things to do. So why not breeze along the Atlantic Highway in Devon and Cornwall?

The road takes you from Bude to Bridgwater and takes you to all sorts of different places along the western edge of the Devon and Cornwall coastline. The route also passes through the Exmoor National Park, one of the most beautiful places in the UK, where you can stop for a romantic overnight camping trip.

A trip to Gretna Green?

The ultimate romantic road trip destination. Take a drive to Gretna Green where you can elope! You can just turn up at the famous blacksmiths shop and get married. So if you’ve been itching to get hitched, take your beloved to Gretna!
