In a recent study by car valuation experts Glass’s for Auto Express, Mini has come out on top in a leaderboard for residual values.

On average, Mini owners should expect to only see their cars depreciate by 16.4% annually. This contrasts massively with other manufacturers further down the table. Owners of Jaguar’s luxury sports cars can expect a much higher average depreciation of 23.2% per year, and Chrysler falls to the bottom of the list at 26.60%.

Volkswagen Auto Group’s multitude of manufacturers fare well in this study, with Volkswagen placing at number 5 (18.30%), Audi at number 8 (19.50%) and SEAT and Skoda at 9 (19.60%) and 10 (20.30%) respectively. This is great news for anybody who’s invested in one of their motors.

Unfortunately for owners of French cars, Citroen, Peugeot and Renault don’t hold their value as well compared to Japanese and German brands, and place 23, 26 and 30 on the leaderboard.

When buying a new car, whether the vehicle is going to be able to hold its value is a big selling point for good reason. Owning a Mini can save buyers thousands of pounds in the long-term. Furthermore, it indicates that you don’t need to buy a large, luxury brand in order for the car to hold its value.

It’s not the only figure to keep in mind however, and as these are average scores one person’s Mini can depreciate by much more than the next if it has been treated badly, is a lower specification or a whole host of other reasons.
