Image: Kia Unveil new Kia Sorento

Ahead of its debut at the Paris Motorshow, Kia have unveiled the first official images for the new Sorento. Entering its third generation, Kia will be hoping to improve upon the 7,600 units sold across Europe last year.

Updating the appearance of the current Kia Sorento, the new model has been designed with a more mature styling. The new look incorporates some of the elements from the Kia Cross GT concept model that was displayed at the 2013 Chicago Auto Show. Some of the elements used include the long bonnet and the wide D-pillars from the previous generation.

The exterior design was led by Kia’s Namyang design studio in their home country of Korea. Additional input came from the Frankfurt and California design studios.

Soon-Nam Lee, Vice President of Overseas Marketing, Kia Motors Corp., said, “While we have retained the name based on the tremendous success of the current model, the all-new Sorento has been completely redesigned and re-engineered, and promises to surprise customers with its thoroughly updated styling, a host of new convenience and safety technologies, as well as enhanced space, driving comfort and handling response.”

The New Design

The redesign includes a more upright “tiger-nose” grille, giving the car a distinctive three-dimensional diamond pattern. Long swept-back headlamps complete the new front end.

Dimension wise, the car has grown almost 10cms, with 8cms added to the wheelbase for a bit more leg room. The Kia is a bit shorter, losing 1.5cm off the top. The lower roof and higher beltline gives the car a more rounded, muscular feel that adds to the cars dramatic appearance.

The new Sorento will be showcased in Korea later this month before making its European premiere in October at the 2014 Paris Motor Show. The car is expected to go on the market here in the UK in Spring 2015.
