The Best-Selling Cars of the Year (So Far)

The half time results are in and we have our top five best-selling cars of the year so far. The UK car industry has enjoyed a boom year, with July showing a record 29th consecutive month of growth in new car sales. With that in mind, we take a look at the top five best-selling cars in the UK.

Fifth Place – Vauxhall Astra

In fifth place we have the Vauxhall Astra, with strong sales of  36,578 units for the year. The Astra is currently in its 6th generation of the model and is one of the most popular small family cars in the UK. The estate version the Sports Tourer provides a little extra space for your money.

Fourth Place – Volkswagen Golf

At number four, the Volkswagen Golf. Having recently entered its 7th generation, the MK7, the Golf has consistently been one of the most popular cars in Britain. Extremely popular with young men, the Golf continues to achieve high sale prices in the second hand market. Available in a variety of different models, you can now purchase the electric car version of the Golf. 43,277 units have sold this year.

Third Place – Vauxhall Corsa

Recently profiled on our blog, the Vauxhall Corsa is a smart supermini ideal for someone’s second car. Low running costs and extremely reliable, the Corsa comes in a large number of customisable options to suit your tastes and requirements. The current generation, the Corsa D was released in 2006 and won What Car? of the year award in 2007. The Corsa was redesigned with a new shape in 2010. 47,752 units of the Corsa have sold so far this year.

Second place – Ford Focus

The runner up is the Ford Focus. Selling 50,767 units so far this year, the Focus continues to be a popular choice for UK drivers in its third generation. Also available in an all-electric version, the Focus will undergo a facelift in 2015 with a redesigned front end. Third most popular car in 2012, it moved up one place to second in 2013 and will have its eyes on the top prize at the end of the year.

First Place – Ford Fiesta

Round of applause for the number one car, the Ford Fiesta. Selling a staggering 79,007 units this year – that’s over 25,000 more than its closest rival. The best-selling car year on year in the UK since 2010, the Fiesta looks well on track to take the title in 2014 too. Since its launch in 1976, the Fiesta has been a popular choice because of its versatility and economy. Now in its seventh generation, more than 940,000 Fiesta’s have been purchased, 86% of those in Europe. Winner of numerous awards, available in a wide variety of different options and variations, the Fiesta looks set to hold its place as the best-selling car in the UK for a long time to come.
