If you are looking for the perfect family car in 2020, chances are you’ll be looking for a crossover SUV. Big and rugged, they have replaced the MPV as the go to vehicle of choice for families. Known for the generous amounts of space and high safety rating, crossovers have easily become the number one type of family car.

But with every manufacturer now producing their own crossover SUV, which one is the right choice for you? We’ve taken a look at our network of car dealers and come up with seven of the best used crossover SUVs you can currently buy. Each one is no more than 3 years old and has less than 30,000 miles on the clock.

Nissan Qashqai

When you talk about crossover SUVs, you have to have the Nissan Qashqai in the discussion. The car that really introduced this particular type of vehicle to the global car market, the Qashqai left other car makers trying their best to catch up with Nissan.

But how does the car stand up? Now in its second generation, the Nissan Qashqai continues to be one of the best options on the market. With a spacious interior and a smooth ride, it’s ideal for the growing family who doesn’t want to feel too many bumps in the road. It’s not the most exciting car to drive, but it will keep your loved ones safe.

Peugeot 3008

One of the first things you’ll notice about the Peugeot 3008 is its striking looks. In fact, the 3008 has an interesting level of design detail both inside and out. With upholstery made from high quality materials and the ergonomic design of the dashboard and controls, you’ll find the Peugeot 3008 to be a pleasure to be inside.

Like the Qashqai, the Peugeot 3008 isn’t the most responsive drive. Designed for stability rather than fun, it doesn’t roll too much in corners and its smart suspension means you can drive on bumpy roads and not feel too shook up. There’s also a nice quiet cabin so the ride, even on the motorway, isn’t going to be too noisy.

Mazda CX-5

If you want something a lot more sporty as your used crossover SUV option, than the Mazda CX-5 is an ideal choice. It’s fun to drive, thanks to the responsive handling and a selection of nippy engines to choose from. As well as the performance aspect of the car, there are a huge range of tech and equipment options to choose from. The infotainment screen is big and bold, and readable even in direct sunlight. And, if you feel like splashing the cash, you can upgrade your speakers to Bose for enhanced sound.

On the downside, the extra performance and entertainment means you get slightly less space inside, but it’s a small price to pay for a car that makes navigating country roads and long motorway journeys so much fun.

Skoda Yeti

The Skoda Yeti has quite possibly the best name of all the cars on the list. Unfortunately the car’s looks aren’t as striking as its name. But if you want a car with excellent performance, space usage, and running costs, than the Skoda Yeti is an excellent option.

Space is the key with the Yeti. The car’s dimensions means there is plenty of space inside, especially in the back seats. So if you have a young, squabbling family, then there will be plenty of room inside. Add to that a soft suspension, and comfort for your family is going to be exceptional.

The last Yeti’s were produced in 2017, with the model replaced by the Skoda Kodiaq. That means you should be able to get some excellent deals on a Yeti with low mileage, and a car that is not going to be that common on the road.

Lexus RX

The Lexus RX is one of the most luxurious crossover SUVs on the market. That luxury is most obvious in the quality of the exterior and interior design. The body work has been expertly sculpted, making the car beautiful to look at, especially as it cruises along motorways. Inside, you’ll feel yourself as comfy as at home on your sofa. There’s plenty of legroom and space, you’ll soon forget that this is a family car. Especially when you examine the wooden trim.

There are also a range of petrol or hybrid engines to choose from, however there’s currently no diesel option available. And boot space is a little on the smaller side. But if you want one of the most beautiful crossovers on the market, then the Lexus RX is the choice for you.

Volvo XC90

For those who want a taste of prestige, then the Volvo XC90 is one of the best options that you have available. Like the Lexus, its beautiful on the inside and out, with a metallic trim and comfy leather seats. Where it has a bigger advantage is in the amount of technology you have available, especially some of the state-of-the-art safety gear. In fact it scored the full 5 stars in the Euro NCAP test and achieved an incredible 97% safety rating for adult occupants.

The car has a big boot, even if you go for the seven seat option. Just be aware that space can be a little cramped for those in the back row. And there’s one more feature that might swing you. Its front headlights. The name? ‘Thor’s Hammer’ headlights.

Kia Sportage

For practicality, the Kia Sportage has everything you’re looking for. A range of economical engines means you won’t be spending too much on fuel for a vehicle this size. As well as smart engines, there’s plenty of space inside, a must have for any crossover SUV. There’s also lots of equipment that comes as standard, including an infotainment system, rearview camera, and lane assist. It’s one of the most generous standard packages you can get for a crossover SUV.

You’ll also probably benefit from the car’s seven year warranty, meaning you can choose a used model and take advantage of protection provided by the car’s manufacturer.
