In a surprising announcement, Jeremy Clarkson has revealed that himself, May and Hammond will be joining Amazon Instant Video for their new car show. After weeks of intense speculation linking the trio to Netflix, the news that they will be working with Amazon has come as a shock.
Clarkson made the announcement on twitter this morning, the news coming out of nowhere. Rumours that Netflix had secured the trio a few weeks ago now appear to be unfounded. Whether this was due to a breakdown in negotiations between the popular streaming service is unclear. Other rumours had ITV as the frontrunners, but it seems that Amazon Instant Video were quietly working on a deal of their own.
I'm very excited to announce that Hammond, May and I have signed a deal with .@AmazonVideo

A title for the show has not been revealed, with Amazon Instant Video using the hashtag #Drive2Prime to promote the news. It is clear that the former Top Gear trio have been busy, their global tour continuing despite the uncertainty about their future. The global jet setting does raise the question if any filming has been taking place. They must have known that they would be able to find a backer for a new car home, so why not start filming before the deal was made?
