If you’re stuck on what to do for Valentine’s day this year, we’ve put together a list of the best (and worst) dates to either make your date fall in love - or run a mile! So, if you want to know which destinations are sure to win your dearest’s heart, and which ones should be avoided at all costs, then take a look at our 9 best and worst Valentine’s day road trips!

1. Lulworth Cove

If you’re looking for somewhere special to treat your date this valentine’s day, why not head on down to Lulworth Cove?  Start things off with a stroll through the quaint village of West Lulworth, admire the pretty thatched cottages or perhaps stop for a drink or a bite to eat in one of the cosy pubs.

But don’t delay too long as there’s much more to see as you head down to the coast. Make your way down to the beach and you can walk around the circular bay below the white cliffs. There’s also a costal path which takes you round to the neighbouring bay where you’ll find one of the UKs most famous sights, Durdle Door. The limestone arch has formed naturally and is estimated to be over 10,000 years ago – also quoting that stat is sure to impress (you’re welcome!).

2. McDonald's Drive Through

If you’re trying to impress your date then McDonald's is an absolute no. Seriously – do not even entertain it. While McDonald's may be as cheap as chips and you know what to expect, there are plenty of other budget-friendly places you can go that have buckets more romance and class.

And while we’re here, note that Burger King, KFC and Subway should also be avoided if you want your date to stick around!

3. Barbecue Under The Stars

Instead of following the status quo and taking your date to a fancy restaurant, why not go for a romantic drive out to a scenic spot and get a barbecue going. Instead of being surrounded by other couples in a packed dining area, you can enjoy each other’s company in the peaceful surroundings of mother nature. Bring some camping chairs or a blanket, and as you sit outside in the moonlight munching on your hot dogs, you can gaze up at the stars together. What could be more romantic?

4. Lake District

Home to some of the most beautiful countryside in the UK, the Lake District is famous for its many lakes, fells and forests making it an idyllic place to spend a romantic weekend away.

There are also plenty of attractions to keep your date amused including breweries, museums, historic stately homes, boat and train rides, and castles.

5. Wetherspoons

Great for sinking a few pints on a Friday evening with your mates, not so great for trying to impress your date on Valentine’s day. They may be offering a £20 deal for two mains, desserts and drinks, but please - resist the urge and take them somewhere with a little more class.

6. Romantic Road, Cotswolds

Beautiful rolling countryside, charming picturesque villages, the Cotswolds is the perfect setting for a romantic get-away. In fact, the Cotswolds is such a romantic destination, it even has a road named “Romantic Road”.

This is a circular route from Broadway which passes through several riverside villages. You can stop here to stretch your legs and take in the beautiful surroundings. What’s more, there’s plenty of pubs en-route if you start getting peckish.

7. Tesco Meal Deal

A trip to Tesco for a triple cheese sarnie, walkers and a pepsi max? That is a pretty good deal for three pounds but if you’re not prepared to spend more than three pounds on your date then are you sure you event want to date this person?

8. Meeting The Parents

The dreaded “meeting the parents”. It’s always nerve-racking meeting your other half’s parents for the first time. However, once your relationship reaches a certain stage, you have to face the music, put on your best smile and try your best to charm them.

But even if you’ve reached that point in the relationship, don’t choose Valentine’s day to do the big introductions - this day should just be for the two of you.

9. Brighton Seafront

Voted one of the Top 10 city beach break destinations in the world, Brighton Seafront is the ideal location to treat your date this Valentine’s Day. There’s plenty of activity with endless bars and restaurants lining the seafront. Alternatively, you can grab yourself some fish and chips and take them down to the beach. And as the sun sets, you can enjoy a beautiful romantic stroll hand in hand down the pier...
